Synopsis:
The Last Word is an American comedy drama film taking on the life of a very enigmatic woman who wants to be in control of everything, even after she dies. She writes an obituary for herself before her death and sends it to the newspapers in order to control the general perception people will have of her once she dies. Shirley does that quite often and when we get a peek into her life as a lonely woman who is so much obsessed with the idea of power and controlling everything around her, we somehow sympathise with her. Her only relative is her daughter Elizabeth who doesn’t share a good rapport with her mother. One journalist, however, senses the fishiness into the matter and decides to go out to look for the truth. And during the whole process, a highly unlikely friendship paves its way into their lives and the film culminates in a satisfying finale. The film deals with the themes of power, passion death and these heavy themes are portrayed while keeping the film light-hearted. The recent premier of the film at the Sundance film festival has seen the film receiving some great reviews from the audiences and the critics alike.
